Business Owners all around the world are taking as many precautions as they can to keep their doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But as a business owner are you doing enough? And what should you be doing exactly? SERVPRO® of North Columbiana County is here to give you some tips, approved by the Department of Health, to keep those doors open and your customers safe.

General cleaning and following the proper protocols advised by the Governor is a good first step. Providing masks for employees to wear, at all times, has been advised by the State of Ohio. You should also be cleaning and disinfecting the building frequently, especially high touch areas. Make sure your employees have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes. Tell employees they should notify their supervisor if they are sick and stay home. Employees that are asymptomatic and positive should not return to work.

We have all been told about social distancing. This includes preventing large groups from entering or leaving the building at the same time. Make sure to limit the number of employees in common areas. If you can---conduct meetings virtually, and if you must conduct an in-person meeting, limit the number of employees--- and maintain six-foot distance. Do not allow non-essential visitors inside.

If there has been exposure to COVID inside your business, establish a plan that includes building cleaning and notifying affected employees.  Wait at least 24 hours, (or for as long as practical), before cleaning and disinfecting the area visited or used by the sick person. Do the same for all shared areas and equipment used by the sick person. Ensure each employee’s temperature is taken before they enter the building, either at the workplace or at home. Do not allow those who have a temperature of 100.4°F or higher to enter the worksite. Employees should notify their supervisor if they have symptoms and go or stay home. Open windows and doors to let air in. Use ventilation fans to help circulate air. Advise sick employees to stay home.

After all proper precautions are taken…it’s time to call SERVPRO of North Columbiana County to help sanitize. We use an amazing procedure called Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned. It is a defensive cleaning program that goes beyond janitorial or carpet cleaning, it is a higher standard of clean.
