What is the Importance of Clean Carpets?
Even the highest-quality carpet and upholstery can show soiling over time. If you wait until carpets look really dirty, the carpets may never be restored to their former appearance. Dirt builds up in layers, and when a carpet looks dirty you are only seeing the dirt at the tips of the fibers. More dirt is hiding below the surface down near the base of the pile, causing damage to the carpet. When a carpet is saturated with dirt, the soil has penetrated crevices and has become firmly lodged. Check Out how we can clean your businesses’ carpets!

When Was the Last Time You Cleaned Your Drapes at Your North Columbiana Business?
SERVPRO of North Columbiana County excels at cleaning fine fabrics and intricate pieces using wet or dry-cleaning methods as required.
Drape cleaning. Oh, that’s a thing? Drapes can pick up a lot more dirt and dander than you think. And did you know that is another one of SERVPRO of North Columbiana County’s ancillary services? Allow us to explain more in detail.
SERVPRO of North Columbiana County excels at cleaning fine fabrics and intricate pieces using wet or dry-cleaning methods as required. We carefully inspect and test fabrics to determine which of our System’s five cleaning methods is best suited to your fabrics. We use state-of-the-art equipment designed specifically for cleaning fine fabrics.
When Should My Drapes Be Cleaned?
A good rule-of-thumb is to clean drapes approximately every two years. A recent survey by SERVPRO disclosed that the average customer believes drapes should be cleaned when they look dirty. Depending on your heating system, the amount of smokers in the home, and other factors, drapes may not show soil for two to six years. The oily atmospheric soil will gradually cause the fabric to deteriorate. Often, direct sunlight is unjustly blamed for this. You may triple the life of your draperies through professional cleaning, which is relatively inexpensive compared to replacement costs.
When your draperies need cleaning, make certain they are dry cleaned ONLY. Only a small percentage of materials can be laundered. If in doubt, call us for advice. Be discriminating in your choice of professional dry cleaners. Some cleaners have equipment designed for clothes cleaning, while others have equipment specifically designed for draperies.
SERVPRO of North Columbiana County has an exclusive process of dry-cleaning draperies right in your home. There is no need to have your home or office exposed while your draperies are out being cleaned. We inject a specially formulated solvent into your drapery under pressure and extract the chemical, leaving your drapes clean. This special process results in no damage or shrinkage to the material. Most importantly, you will get quality cleaning at a reasonable price.
If you need your drapes or blinds cleaned, call us today at (330) 921-4931. You can also visit our website or our Facebook page to learn more about the cleaning services we offer.

Cleaning Your Business Up to Par During a Pandemic
This proactive viral pathogen cleaning helps ensure the cleanliness of restaurants, businesses, and public spaces in the communities we all call home
Business Owners all around the world are taking as many precautions as they can to keep their doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic.
But as a business owner are you doing enough? And what should you be doing exactly? SERVPRO® of North Columbiana County is here to give you some tips, approved by the Department of Health, to keep those doors open and your customers safe.
General cleaning and following the proper protocols advised by the Governor is a good first step. Providing masks for employees to wear, at all times, has been advised by the State of Ohio. You should also be cleaning and disinfecting the building frequently, especially high touch areas. Make sure your employees have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes. Tell employees they should notify their supervisor if they are sick and stay home. Employees that are asymptomatic and positive should not return to work.
We have all been told about social distancing. This includes preventing large groups from entering or leaving the building at the same time. Make sure to limit the number of employees in common areas. If you can---conduct meetings virtually, and if you must conduct an in-person meeting, limit the number of employees--- and maintain six-foot distance. Do not allow non-essential visitors inside.
If there has been exposure to COVID inside your business, establish a plan that includes building cleaning and notifying affected employees. Wait at least 24 hours, (or for as long as practical), before cleaning and disinfecting the area visited or used by the sick person. Do the same for all shared areas and equipment used by the sick person. Ensure each employee’s temperature is taken before they enter the building, either at the workplace or at home. Do not allow those who have a temperature of 100.4°F or higher to enter the worksite. Employees should notify their supervisor if they have symptoms and go or stay home. Open windows and doors to let air in. Use ventilation fans to help circulate air. Advise sick employees to stay home.
After all proper precautions are taken…it’s time to call SERVPRO of North Columbiana County to help sanitize. We use an amazing procedure called Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned. It is a defensive cleaning program that goes beyond janitorial or carpet cleaning, it is a higher standard of clean. This proactive viral pathogen cleaning helps ensure the cleanliness of restaurants, businesses, and public spaces in the communities we all call home. Our SERVPRO professionals are trained and experienced in every aspect of maintenance- always adhering to the cleaning and decontamination standards set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local authorities.

Don’t Let Mold Get a Hold on Your Business
Water damage, leakage, and odor are a few of the more obvious ways to suspect mold.
With many misconceptions in the world about mold, it is easy to wonder, “Is there mold in my building?” While mold may seem like a mysterious thing, there are easy ways to spot mold in your building. Water damage, leakage, and odor are a few of the more obvious ways to suspect mold. Other signs include rust, bulging or warped walls, peeling/cracked paint, or wallpaper, all of which are caused by excess moisture.
If you are not sure what mold looks like, think of it as fuzzy and bruise colored monsters that like to travel in packs. The more they travel, the more friends they pick up along the way.
Mold can also cause health effects in people. If you notice these happening at the same time in the year, consider bringing a specialist to check for mold in your building.
If you suspect mold growth, the first thing you should do is call SERVPRO of North Columbiana County. It is important to bring in a professional to do a proper assessment and to correctly eliminate all mold. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we are happy to help! Call us at (330) 921 4931 if you need our help or would like more information.

Preventing Mold in School Buildings
SERVPRO of North Columbiana wants our schools to be as safe as possible! If you suspect mold in your schools or commercial building, give us a call!
Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any organic substance, if moisture and oxygen are present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, foods, and insulation. When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings or on building materials, mold growth will often occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed. It is impossible to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment. However, mold growth can be controlled indoors by controlling moisture indoors.
Molds reproduce by making spores that usually cannot be seen without magnification. Mold spores waft through the indoor and outdoor air continually. When mold spores land on a damp spot indoors, they may begin growing and digesting whatever they are growing on in order to survive.
Moisture problems in school buildings can be caused by a variety of conditions, including roof and plumbing leaks, condensation, and excess humidity. Some moisture problems in schools have been linked to changes in building construction practices during the past twenty to thirty years. These changes have resulted in more tightly sealed buildings that may not allow moisture to escape easily. Moisture problems in schools are also associated with delayed maintenance or insufficient maintenance, due to budget and other constraints. Temporary structures in schools, such as trailers and portable classrooms, have frequently been associated with moisture and mold problems.
Tip #1: Keep on the HVAC system.
Over the summer, some school administrators make the mistake of turning off HVAC systems in order to save money. HVAC systems keep humidity in check and by turning them off you can potentially create the perfect environment for mold. While it may cost more to keep the HVAC system running, it can ultimately save you money in the long run.
Tip #2: Purchase a humidity sensor.
If keeping your HVAC system on in your school building is not an option, consider buying a humidity sensor. Rather than running the HVAC system day and night, a humidity sensor can allow you to track the levels of humidity in the air and turn on the HVAC system when necessary.
Tip #3: Keep a watchful eye on problem areas.
Remember, the perfect environment for mold is anywhere that has moisture. Some problem areas might include storage areas, bathrooms, or kitchens in a school. The earlier you are aware of a mold problem, the less likely you are to suffer costly damages.
SERVPRO of North Columbiana County wants our schools to be as safe as possible. If you suspect mold in your schools or commercial building, do not hesitate to give us a call. We can come in and inspect your building and then devise a plan to eliminate the mold.
